Liposuction of the Face Procedure

Facial liposuction, or excess fat removal, is very useful in patients who have stubborn pockets of fat in the face near the cheeks and under the chin and jawline in the neck. Most patients will complain that even with diet and exercise that these target areas are still hard to get rid of.

Liposuction Consultation

Dr. Undavia will examine your face and neck and determine if liposuction is right for you. It will be important during your consultation to check the elasticity of your skin to make sure that following surgery, your skin will contract appropriately. Dr. Undavia will use computer imaging to help show you appropriate and realistic surgical goals. At times, additional anatomical features need to be addressed to help achieve the look you desire. Dr. Undavia will discuss these if they are indicated for you.

Surgery

Liposuction of the face and neck is a minimally invasive procedure that can help to improve the appearance of the face by removing excess fat. The surgery is typically done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Liposuction on the face can be used to treat a variety of concerns, including double chin, jowls, and cheeks that appear fuller than desired.

Chin and Cheek Liposuction Procedure

If you are unhappy with the appearance of a “double chin”, liposuction of the chin and neck area may be the right cosmetic procedure for you. This treatment can help to improve your appearance by creating a more defined jawline and neck. For liposuction of the neck and jawline, small incisions are hidden behind the ear, and in the crease between the chin and neck.

For fat that is persistent in the cheeks, a small incision is made inside the mouth, and fat is removed without any incisions on the external skin.

Recovery

Following facial liposuction, there may be some swelling and bruising of the face, but this is typically short lived. Swelling of the cheeks may be present for a few weeks longer than under the chin. You may return to work within a few days after the procedure, and exercise can resume within 2 weeks after surgery. A small sling may be recommended for a few days after surgery to help quicken your recovery.
