Cheek Augmentation

A cheek implant is designed to enhance the cheekbones and restore or create facial volume. The surgery involves placing an implant made of either silicone, polyethylene, or other materials directly over the cheekbones for a more pronounced definition and contouring. The procedure can be tailored according to the patient’s goals and desired results.

Cheek implants, or “augmentation” is indicated in patients who lack prominent cheekbones, or who have lost significant cheek volume because of aging. It can be done by itself, or in conjunction with other procedures. The result is a subtle enhancement of the face, creating a more youthful and fuller face.

Cheek Implants Consultation

Dr. Undavia will carefully examine your face to see if cheek implants are right for you, and if so, which type. Computer imaging will be used to help identify areas of the face which need augmentation, and also be used to show you realistic goals for cheek implant surgery.

Cheek Implant Surgery

Cheek implants are typically placed under general anesthesia, and are done on an outpatient basis. Dr. Undavia performs this cheek augmentation surgery using minimally invasive techniques. Using incisions hidden inside the mouth, a pocket is created for the implant. Once the implant is secure, a tape dressing is applied to the cheeks and left in place for a few days to help secure the implant in place.

Implants Recovery

There is minimal bruising and discomfort with this procedure. Some swelling is anticipated and gradually comes down for a natural, fuller cheek appearance. There might be some numbness of the cheek, but this is short lived. After a short time period the silicon implant incorporates with the surrounding cheek structures, and you’ll forget that its even there!

Cheek Implant FAQ’s

Cheek implants are typically permanent. Factors such as skin quality and lifestyle habits can affect how long the implant lasts. It’s best to talk to your doctor about your expectations for the longevity of your cheek implant.

Cheek implants and dermal fillers are both effective options for achieving a fuller, more contoured appearance to the cheeks. Both procedures offer immediate results and can help improve facial volume, but there are some key differences between them. Cheek implants provide a longer-lasting result because they are permanent, while fillers require regular maintenance for desired effects. Both fillers and implant placement are low risk procedures, but fillers are done under local anesthesia in the office,  while implants are typically placed under anesthesia in the operating room.

While cheek implants provide immediate results and a more permanent solution, there are some potential disadvantages. Complications associated with cheek implants can include infection, facial asymmetry, improper placement or displacement, and visible scarring. It is important to work with an experienced surgeon in order to minimize these risks.
